10 Company Music Videos That Rocked…and Flopped

Corporations and musicals. A match made in musical heaven… or not? We at Fusion recently released our very own musical to celebrate our network launch. (We think we did a pretty good job.) And we’re not alone in this space.

Here are some other company musicals we think rocked and some that, well, didn’t.

Company Musicals That Rocked

1. Virgin America

If you have to listen to flight safety instructions — and sorry, you do — this is the way to do it. A dancing nun, snarky commentary, breakdancing hipster flight attendants and a rap about oxygen masks? Sign us up.

2. Halifax

British bank Halifax started launching musical commercials starring “Howard,” a real life bank teller who sang and danced his way to fame. They were so popular that Howard went on to star in a number of commercials for the company, all which took a popular song and reworked them with a Halifax theme.

3. Weetabix

Gloria Gaynor’s “I will survive” is brought to life by an angry driving instructor. His day is only made better by a bowl of Weetabix (a healthy British cereal).

4. Melbourne Metro

We’re definitely going to watch anything that involves “dumb ways to die” all the way through. Well done.

5. The Magic Fun Store in Tucson

When you think of singing unicorns, do you think of rainbows, virgins and dolphins? Well maybe you should. The Magic Fun Store in Tucson advertises their services by serving up a musical version of an acid trip.

Company Musicals That Flopped

6. PricewaterhouseCoopers

The videography is gorgeous but the song is melancholy and you’ll be asleep by the time they get to their punchline at the end. Good attempt, but it doesn’t quite hit the mark.

7. Safeway

We couldn’t decide if this is terrible or amazing. Sorry Safeway, we’re going with terrible.

8. DirecTV

Anything that involves Eli Manning attempting to rap, “What do you get when a football gets down with your phone?” as he rubs a phone suggestively against a gold football is just not ok.

9. Toyota

This almost makes us think mini vans (excuse us, swagger wagons) are cool. Almost.

10. Fiat

So Fiat wants to make being a dad cool. Great premise, but it works less when you have an un-ironic, but trying-to-be-ironic parody. “The gear changes light in a bid to quiet their breathing.” Yes, we know.
