A giant glass walkway in China cracked and tourists freaked out

In the Henan Province of China, there’s a 1,300 foot “glass bottom walkway” perched 3,500 feet in the air hanging over a canyon in Yuntai Mountain Scenic Park. USA Today reports that the bridge is constructed of “three planes of tempered glass,” and on Monday, a section of the top pane cracked.

Accordingly, people freaked the hell out. Mashable has this horrifying quote from a Weibo user:

Lee Dong Hai, a tourist who was on the walkway, posted on the social media site Weibo: “I was almost at the end and suddenly I heard a sound. My foot shook a little. I looked down and I saw that there was a crack in the floor.”
“A lot of people started to scream,” Hai wrote. “I screamed out, ‘It cracked! It really cracked!’ and then I pushed the people in front of me so that we could run out of the way.”

And here’s one from the Daily Mail:

She posted three pictures showing what she claimed was the cracked piece of glass alongside a message saying:
‘[I’ve] just witnessed history. The glass-bottomed walkway on Yuntai Mountain just cracked. When I was about to reach the end [of the passage], I heard a sudden bang and felt a shake under my feet.
‘I looked down and saw the glass floor beneath me shattered. [I have] no idea why it happened, at that moment everybody was screaming.
‘I yelled out loud “It cracked, it really cracked!”, then pushed the people in front of me to leave. [I was] terrified.’

The New York Times reports the park administration released a statement Tuesday saying the crack “has no impact on safety.”
