A Google employee is making 'Burning Man: The Musical' and he wants your help
Crowd-funding site IndieGoGo sure has an investment opportunity for you, if you are the type of person who wants “Cool perks!” “Good karma for supporting new theater!” and are comfortable bringing into the world more Burning Man: The Musical.
So far, the group behind the project (“a new musical about the collision of Silicon Valley and Burning Man”) has already released a highly-produced, five-minute long music video:
There are lots of references to tech moguls and Diddy, Skrillex, techie thugs, and Burning Man shenanigans in general. The aesthetic can be described as Cats meets Rent meets the internet.
Based on the video, the themes of the show appear to be: Burning Man, Burning Man sucking, Burning Man selling out, Silicon Valley, apps, how hard it is to build apps quickly, how hard it is to be a twentysomething tech evangelist and, of course, white privilege. We think?
Vice describes creator Matt Werner as a “New York City-based writer who decided that Silicon Valley’s douchey invasion of Burning Man—which has spawned both Burner Air private helicopters and ‘Fuck Burning Man’ protest parties—was ripe for satire,” but added that “ironically, Werner works at Google.”
The project has already raised more than two thousand dollars, but is still well short of its $20,000 goal.
