A Latino congressman from Texas just told Donald Trump what millions of Latinos have been thinking

Filemon Vela has never been shy about his opposition to border fences.

In 2013 the Texas congressman, a Democrat representing the state’s 34th district, quit the congressional Hispanic caucus in protest against their acceptance of a Senate immigration proposal, which contained millions in funding for an increase in border security, including drones, personnel, and fencing.

While announcing his departure, Vela told reporters at the time that “erecting more border fence drives a wedge between border communities which are culturally united.”

Nearly three years later, Vela’s distain for border blockades is back in a big way, thanks in no small part to presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, and his proposed wall between the United States and Mexico. In an email first noticed by Texas Tribute reporter Abby Livingston, Vela gave voice to the frustrations felt across Latino and border communities, writing that, while he’d like to be diplomatic, he feels compelled to name Trump as “a racist” and suggests he take his wall and “shove it up [his] ass.”

Writes Vela, per a screenshot posted by Livingston on Twitter:

I would like to end this letter in a more diplomatic fashion, but I think that you, of all people, understand why I cannot. I will not presume to speak on behalf of every American of Mexican descent, for every undocumented worker born in Mexico who is contributing to our country every day or, for that matter, every decent citizen in Mexico. But, I am sure that many of these individuals would agree with me when I say: ‘Mr. Trump, you’re a racist, and you can take your border wall and shove it up your ass.’
