A tsunami of two-wheeled motorized scooter knockoffs has hit Amazon
Happy Amazon Prime Day! If you want a deal on a two-wheeled motorized scooter, you actually already had infiniti options.
Last month, Wired‘s David Pierce got to the bottom of the origin story of the two-wheel motorized scooter that has variously conquered the NBA, hip-hop, and Vine.
It turns out that they were created by a Chinese company called Chic, whose S-1 was an instant hit.
“Distributors across the world noticed, and so did other factories in China,” Pierce writes. “Before long Alibaba was littered with manufacturers offering the same board—often using the same images and promotional videos, their logos hastily Photoshopped over Chic’s.”
This same phenomenon has now hit Amazon. How bad is it? If you’re on the market for one of these things, you now have options. So, so many options. We have listed the ones we’ve found below, by ascending price (along with the distributor), although, again, there does not appear to be any distinguishing feature that would allow for the differentials:
