An Animated John Lennon and Yoko Ono Speak on Love
A long-lost interview with legendary couple John Lennon and Yoko Ono is now available for your listening (and viewing) pleasure today. John and Yoko expound on love, marriage and television in an unheard interview conducted by Howard Smith, an Oscar winning film director, journalist and broadcaster.
The interview, which took place between 1969 and 1971 in New York City and Quebec, comes courtesy of Blank on Blank, a project that revives unheard interviews through multimedia storytelling. New episodes are released on YouTube every other Tuesday; past highlights include interviews with figures ranging from Grace Kelly to Tupac Shakur to Fidel Castro (check them all out here).
As you may have guessed, John and Yoko drop some gems during the long-lost interview. Lennon reveals that, before meeting Ono, he hadn’t experienced the thing he sang so frequently about: love.
“I thought it was an abstract thing, you know, when I was singing about all you need is love. I was talking about something I hadn’t experienced,” he told Smith.
The couple also talks about their mutual love for TV, which somehow brings to mind this video of Bjork explaining television.
