At Long Last, Trump Submits Written Responses to Mueller 

It feels like the back and forth over whether President Trump will interview with Special Counsel Robert Mueller as part of his investigation into the Trump Campaign’s ties to Russia has been going on forever. Now, at long last, Trump has submitted written answers to Mueller’s questions, an alternative to an in-person interview, according to The Hill.

Trump’s lawyer Jay Sekulow said that the responses address “issues regarding the Russia-related topics of the inquiry.”

“It has been our position from the outset that much of what has been asked raised serious constitutional issues and was beyond the scope of a legitimate inquiry,” Rudy Giuliani, another of Trump’s lawyers, told The Hill. “This remains our position today.”

Giuliani added that Trump had “nonetheless provided unprecedented cooperation” with the inquiry, including handing over 1.4 million pages of material and providing 30 witnesses.

“It is time to bring this inquiry to a conclusion,” Giuliani said.

Trump also commented on submitting the responses, telling reporters today that they were“all finished.”

“Finished them yesterday. The lawyers have them. I assume they’ll turn them in today or soon,” he said as he left Washington for Mar-a-Lago.

Few believe that this will be the end of Mueller’s investigation, put to rest the questions about what Trump’s campaign did with the Russians, or determine whether the president subsequently obstructed justice. His firing of former Attorney General Jeff Sessions earlier this month and appointment of Matt Whitaker, an opponent of the investigation, has stirred up outrage among Democrats.

On Sunday, Trump told Fox News he most likely wouldn’t sit for an interview with Mueller at any point in the future. “I think we’ve wasted enough time on this witch hunt and the answer is probably, we’re finished,” he said.
