Bernie Sanders introduces a bill aiming to legalize marijuana nationally
Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders made some news today at his day job (being a Senator for the state of Vermont) by introducing a bill to legalize marijuana on a federal level. Gotta stay in the headlines!
The bill’s called the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act, and, according to The Hill, it’s the first time someone in the Senate has proposed such a bill.
The legislation would remove the barriers for states that want to legalize recreational and medical marijuana without interference from the federal government. However, other states could still choose to prohibit pot.
As The Hill points out, it’s a move that theoretically further endears Sanders to the supporters of his campaign. As Gawker points out, there’s almost no chance the bill passes.
