Brits are asking #WhatHaveWeDone after voting to leave the European Union

The United States woke up this morning to pretty surreal news: the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland) voted yesterday to leave the European Union. Today, Brits who voted against the #Brexit took to Twitter to express their disbelief, anger, and concern for their future with the hashtag #WhatHaveWeDone:

So far, the #Brexit has meant a crash in the value of the pound, leaving the currency at its lowest in three decades:

And has lead to Prime Minister David Cameron’s resignation:

For some, the campaign to leave the EU was founded on racist, anti-immigrant rhetoric, and this turn of events is a sad reflection on British attitudes toward immigrants:

Others were angry that 16 and 17 year olds were not allowed to vote in the referendum, which meant that older Brits took a course of action that’s going to have profound effects on younger generations:
