Buckle Up: Kanye's Going to the White House
Kanye West is headed to the White House on Thursday, per a report by the New York Times. West is slated to meet with both Trump and senior advisor/son-in-law Jared Kushner, according to two sources who spoke with the newspaper.
Kanye’s visit is also supposedly a bit more than fan service. Per the Times:
Mr. Kushner, who serves as a senior adviser to Mr. Trump, has been focused on overhauling the criminal justice system, and one person briefed on the meeting said that Mr. West wanted to discuss the availability of job opportunities for former convicts. He also hopes to discuss with Mr. Trump how to increase the number of manufacturing jobs in the Chicago area, where Mr. West grew up and recently said he planned to return, according to the person briefed on the meeting.
It’s pretty easy to discount this visit right off the bat, seeing as Kanye has spent the better part of the year acting like a deranged conspiracy theorist and tweeting nonsensical things about the 13th amendment. But there’s a chance that some marginal progress could come from the meeting—his wife Kim Kardashian-West’s efforts did help get Alice Marie Johnson released, and we never really know how Trump is going to react when he’s in a room with someone as famous as he is.
On the other hand, this could just be the final moment in Kanye’s metamorphosis into a disgusting alt-right menace, so who knows. Maybe they’re going to join forces against Taylor Swift, who leapt into the political arena on Sunday with a passionate endorsement of two incredibly boring centrist Democrats.
Either way, it’s going to generate a frenzied amount of news for the next few days, so stand by for another exhausting Kanye-cycle.
