Canada's new prime minister was asked why women should be in government. His response was perfect.

This morning, Canada officially said “out with the old and in with the new” when Justin Trudeau was sworn in as the nation’s 23rd Prime Minister.

Trudeau ran for the office as a liberal rejoinder to ten years of Stephen Harper’s conservative government and immediately set about changing things by implementing a cabinet divided equally along gender lines.

After his swearing-in ceremony, several reporters asked Trudeau why it was so important to have women participating in his government. His response was short, incisive, and rivals any of the best political one-liners. He said:

“Because it’s 2015.”

He’s off to a good start.
