China is Accepting Applications for Panda Babysitters

What’s black and white and cute all over? Pandas! So how would you like to get paid to babysit one?

According to China Daily, officials at the Bifengxia Panda Center in Ya’an (in China’s Sichuan province) are looking for official panda caretakers. You’d be living off 200,000 yuan (roughly $32,000) a year, plus you’d get free meals, accommodations, and an SUV for your own personal use. Organizers say panda caretakers would have “only one mission: spending 365 days with the pandas and sharing in their joys and sorrows.” How sorrowful can a panda get? The job can’t be that easy, right?

Sure it can! And you can apply, so long as you meet the following highly exclusive job requirements. Let’s see if I’m prepared to start my career in professional awwwwww-ing.

1. Basic knowledge of pandas.

Okay. They’re endangered. Basic knowledge, check.

2. Good writing skills.

Well I wrote this, didn’t I? Eh, check.

3. Ability to take pictures.

Hold up, let me take a selfie. Check.

4. At least 22 years of age.

Unfortunately, check.

Luckily for me—and just about every other panda lover in the world—a zoology degree is not necessary.
