Churches across America are having their Black Lives Matter banners defaced
A New Jersey church is the latest in a line of religious institutions vandalized for putting up a banner supporting Black Lives Matter, according to NJ.com
Vandals stole two banners proclaiming “Black Lives Matter” from the Unitarian Universal Church in Cherry Hill while also smashing a wooden frame and two outdoor lights.
Church administrator Christie McLean told NJ.com this was the second time this month they’ve had Black Lives Matter banners stolen from the church, costing about $100 each.
Churches across the country that have elected to take a stand with the racial justice movement seem to be having trouble keeping their Black Lives Matter banners up without them being defaced in some way. Other incidents include:
- A suburban Boston church had the word “black” crossed out on its banner last week. Young church members proceeded to cover up the defacement with more Black Lives Matter flyers.
- A Reno, Nev., Unitarian church which had its Black Lives Matter banner defaced with the word “All” on Feb. 5. Local TV Station News 4 reports this is the eighth time the church has been vandalized over the banner since October.
- A suburban Phoenix Unitarian church had several of its signs vandalized and then later stolen back in November. Congregants later replaced the banner with a new one.
- Arlington, Va., police caught a 23-year-old man in the act defacing the banner at a Unitarian church in December. No charges were filed after the man agreed to perform community service for the church.
It’s hard to explain to someone the problems with the “All Lives Matter” argument when they show up in the middle of the night with a can of spray paint.
