CNN's Jeffrey Toobin Did a Very Bad Tweet [Updated]

It is with great sorrow that I inform you that the self-important media men are at it again. CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin has done a very bad tweet indeed:

First of all: Fuck off Jeffrey no one cares what you think!!!!

The argument is stupid and annoying, and harkens back to another attack leveled against Gillibrand when she called for Al Franken to resign: Why wasn’t she focusing on the fact that DRUMPF should resign??? HMMM? The reason, of course, is that she’s a Democrat and so is Al Franken, which is why it actually meant something when she called for him to resign. It’s fine and dandy for all Democrats to demand Trump’s resignation every day, but they have no influence or power over him. It’s entirely symbolic. And that’s fine! Symbols matter, a bit! Trump should resign, and if you want to say that, go for it! But calling for people in your own party to resign actually has a political effect. I would be shocked if Gillibrand didn’t think Rob Porter should resign, but I’m not mad that it wasn’t a priority for her communications team to release that particular statement.

It’s also another exhausting example of men finding a way criticize women for something a man did. This is a story about Rob Porter being a domestic abuser, and yet Toobin managed to make it about a female senator not, I don’t know, being feminist enough? Fuck off!!!

But this particular incarnation of the Gillibrand attack is even more infuriating, because it comes from Jeffrey Toobin. Toobin has been accused of:

  • Telling his pregnant mistress that “she was going to regret” keeping his baby, that “she shouldn’t expect any help from him,” and that he would pay for her to have an abortion, according to the New York Daily News.
  • Failing to pay child support (following a paternity test, which he fought, showing the child was indeed his), again according to the Daily News. (Toobin’s lawyers declined to comment on the entire love child thing at the time, though if you’re having trouble believing a tabloid, the New York Times also wrote a whole story about the drama.)
  • Propositioning a woman at a Washington, DC party and then following her to her hotel room. The woman told the Daily News: “He said, ‘You know you want it.’ I said, ‘No, actually I don’t.’” (Toobin’s lawyer called the claims “fabricated.”)

Probably just shut up and let basically anyone else talk about this one, Jeff.

Update, 4:56PM: Jeffrey has agreed to fuck off.
