Democrats Beg Pelosi and Schumer: Please Don’t Fuck Around and Fund Trump's Wall
Rank and file Democrats woke up this week to an uncomfortable reality that most of us have known for a long time: Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer suck big time.
Specifically, according to the Wall Street Journal, a group of House Democrats are worried that Pelosi and Schumer are going to screw them over and commit the party to doing some extremely dumb shit, like earmarking part of the budget for Trump’s border wall. Last week, Schumer had to quickly assuage concerns that he was going to strike some kind of idiotic compromise with the president after he said that he would go up to (and hell, maybe over!) $1.6 billion for “strong border security.” Schumer claimed that money wouldn’t be used for the Wall, but like, come on. Come on.
Per the Journal:
Still, Texas Democratic Reps. Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez led a group of 12 House Democrats, including one lawmaker-elect, in sending a letter to Mr. Schumer objecting to his comments.
After speaking with Mr. Schumer on the phone, Messrs. Cuellar and Gonzalez said in a statement they were “pleased to agree that we should be focused on real border security, and not the President’s campaign obsession with a concrete wall.”
According to the newspaper, all of this is making some of the Democrats a little nervy, and despite Schumer’s placations they’re threatening to take it out on Pelosi:
“I know Nancy needs all the support she can get right now. If they give away border-wall funding, I think there would be an effect on how the Congressional Hispanic Caucus would feel come Jan. 3,” he said, referring to when the full House will vote on the speaker. “She should be very concerned that members of the CHC don’t abandon her Jan. 3 and I’m hoping she doesn’t abandon us while she’s negotiating this next budget,” Mr. Gonzalez, who currently supports Mrs. Pelosi, said in an interview this week.
This is good! This is what the Dems should be doing. If your leaders are useless, don’t vote for them to be your leaders anymore! The lack of any substantive progressive challenge to Pelosi’s re-election as speaker of the House is a continual frustration for everyone who wants to see Democrats actually get something done in the next four years. Now, the least representatives can do is put pressure on her to not cave to her craven-ass centrist instincts and cut a deal with the ruthless liars on the other side of the aisle. The Democrats have some power now, they should use it.
