Democrats Confirm That They're Totally Cool With Selling Out Women in 2018

Fed up with the so-called “litmus” and “purity” tests that centrist Democrats keep accusing leftist Democrats of being so wedded to that they’ll destroy the party’s chances of taking down Donald Trump? Then you’re going to love this message from the heart of the party’s establishment: there is apparently not going to be any “litmus test” to gauge where future Democratic congressional candidates stand on a woman’s right to have an abortion.

“There is not a litmus test for Democratic candidates,” Rep. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chairman, told The Hill when asked if the party would fund candidates who oppose abortion. “As we look at candidates across the country, you need to make sure you have candidates that fit the district, that can win in these districts across America.”

Luján said that, in the party’s efforts to pick up 24 seats in the 2018 midterms, the party will need a “broad coalition” and “a big family” to win back the House — which will apparently involve kowtowing to anti-choice upstart politicians and selling out the women who are the backbone of the party.

The whole thing is reminiscent of the criticism that followed Bernie Sanders when he stumped for Heath Mello, a mayoral candidate in Omaha who supposed anti-abortion legislation while in the legislature, while touring the country on a unity tour with Democratic National Committee Chair Tom Perez. I’ll be listening extra close for those same people who took turns (rightfully) criticizing Sanders to decry the actions of the DCCC, a lynchpin of the Democratic establishment’s machinery, in the days ahead.
