Donald Trump blames New York bombing on too much 'freedom of expression' and too little racial profiling

Donald Trump, who wants to loosen libel laws so that it’s easier to sue journalists, would also like to see less “freedom of expression.”

During a Monday morning appearance on Fox & Friends, the Republican nominee blamed the recent bomb attack in New York City on magazines that “tell you how to make these same bombs that I saw.”

He continued: “These are magazines that tell you from step one to go to the store and buy such and such.”

Trump predicted during the interview that his call for a crackdown on magazines that do not exist would be criticized as an attack on freedom of the press.

Pressure Cooker Bomb Makers Monthly declined Fusion’s request for comment.

During the same appearance, Trump called for racial profiling as a strategy to prevent attacks—something he has done repeatedly throughout his campaign because he actively supports racial profiling .

“Israel has done an unbelievable job and they will profile,” Trump said. “They profile. They see somebody that’s suspicious. They will profile. They will take that person in and check out. Do we have a choice? Look what’s going on. Do we really have a choice? We’re trying to be so politically correct in our country and this is only going to get worse.”

New York City’s now defunct Zone Assessment Unit, a failed program of mass surveillance that targeted Muslim people, mosques, and community organizations across the five boroughs, conducted the kind of profiling that Trump and other Republicans have called for as a response to terrorism.

It was a civil rights disaster. And an utter failure.

“Not one single piece of actionable intelligence ever came out of that unit in its years of existence,” former New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said of the program.
