Donald Trump Is a Shitty Father
For the president of the United States, Father’s Day appears to be an afterthought, a distraction keeping him from the important business of dwelling upon himself.
From the safety and comfort of the Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, VA, President Donald Trump spent his time Sunday morning tweeting and retweeting no fewer than 13 times about everything from the “Fake News” to North Korea to the “WITCH HUNT!” of the special counsel’s Russia probe. Not a word about the fact that Sunday is Father’s Day in the United States.
Trump—or someone tweeting on his account—finally acknowledged the nation’s fathers by retweeting a generic “Happy Father’s Day” meme from the White House’s Twitter account.
To be fair, Trump was screwed either way. Despite having told Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy two days ago that he planned on celebrating Father’s Day by working, Trump spent his 159th day at a Trump property as president and his 117th day at a Trump golf club as president, as tracked by MSNBC producer Kyle Griffin.
Plus, anything Trump said would have been met with unprecedented scorn, considering his administration is currently ripping migrant families apart at a rate of about 45 kids a day. (Check out the comments on the White House retweet.) And that number is expected to increase, as Manuel Padilla Jr., Border Patrol chief for the Rio Grande Valley, told The Washington Post he believes the number of affected migrant families will double as agents work to implement the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy.
“We are trying to build to 100 percent prosecution of everybody that is eligible,” he told the Post. “We are not there yet, but that is our intent.”
Even first lady Melania Trump weighed in on the issue, with her spokeswoman telling CNN’s Kate Bennet, “Mrs. Trump hates to see children separated from their families and hopes both sides of the aisle can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform. She believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart.”
Here’s an idea: Mr. Trump, you can Be Best, be a good father, and not seem like a complete narcissistic asshole if you decide to celebrate what remains of Father’s Day by putting an end once and for all to your administration’s Nazi-like policy of stealing kids from their parents and placing them in detention camps. Just a thought.
