Donald Trump Isn’t Going to Like This Photo Very Much
Thankfully, Donald Trump stayed far away from former first lady Barbara Bush’s funeral services in Texas on Saturday, which were attended by four former presidents and Trump’s rival in the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton.
As has been the tradition in the past, current first lady Melania Trump attended on behalf of the White House, even sitting next to former President Barack Obama during services at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston. (And smiling about it!)
Meanwhile, President Trump spent the morning golfing for three hours at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, FL, and then manically tweeting while watching TV at his Mar-a-Lago estate—or as he unethically called it on Twitter, the “Southern White House.” It was the president’s 109th day at a Trump golf club and his 148th day at a Trump property as president, according to MSNBC’s Kyle Griffin.
As we have seen time and time again, Donald Trump cannot tolerate not being the center of attention, even during a funeral, and he spent the entire day on Saturday raging and ranting about a “fantastic crowd” in Key West; the Democrats suing his campaign and the Russians over a stolen election; former FBI Director James Comey and his infamous notes that indicate obstruction of justice; Attorney General Jeff Sessions and “Mr. Magoo”; and Sylvester Stallone allegedly asking Trump to pardon boxer Jack Johnson. (“I am considering a Full Pardon!” Trump tweeted, in the most obvious wink–wink to his former personal lawyer and fixer, Michael Cohen, who could be indicted any day.)
It was so bad that Tom Arnold told the president to “give it a rest.”
And now this touching photo, taken by George H. W. Bush photographer Paul Morse, is circulating on social media, and it’s certain to drive Trump mad. That’s because it shows decency, tolerance, honor, respect, and former presidents and first ladies of both parties coming together to pay tribute to an important woman in the country’s political history. It also shows his wife hanging out with the two people Trump hates the most.
Let’s make sure the president doesn’t see it. Wink, wink.
