Donald Trump, Jr. almost plunged the Trump campaign into ANOTHER plagiarism scandal

It almost happened again!

On Monday, Melania Trump was caught lifting an entire paragraph of her Republican National Convention speech from Michelle Obama’s 2008 convention speech, plunging the Trump campaign into yet another scandal. The Trump team’s response to the accusation fell well short of a denial, but they refused to name anyone as the culprit.

You would think that, after that miserable experience, the Trump folks would make sure nothing remotely similar would ever occur again. You’d be wrong.

On Tuesday night, Donald Trump Jr. addressed the convention. Shortly after, “The Daily Show” tweeted out a segment of his speech that looked an awful lot like an op-ed from just two months ago in the American conservative.

Here’s Trump Jr.:

Our schools used to be an elevator to the middle class. Now they’re stalled on the ground floor. They’re like Soviet-era department stores that are run for the benefit of the clerks and not the customers, for the benefit of the teachers and administrators and not the students.

And here’s the American Conservative:

What should be an elevator to the upper class is stalled on the ground floor. Part of the fault for this may be laid at the feet of the system’s entrenched interests: the teachers’ unions and the higher-education professoriate. Our schools and universities are like the old Soviet department stores whose mission was to serve the interests of the sales clerks and not the customers.

The author of the piece, Frank Buckley, tweeted out this cryptic comment about the similarities soon after he started getting asked about it.

It eventually emerged that Buckley had in fact written part of Trump Jr.’s speech.

So, technically, Buckley was just plagiarizing from himself.
