Donald Trump Jr: The media would be 'warming up the gas chamber' if Republicans acted like Clinton
On Thursday, Donald Trump Jr. told a local radio host in Philadelphia that the media would be “warming up the gas chamber” if Republicans acted like Hillary Clinton.
As first reported by Buzzfeed’s Andrew Kaczinski, the younger Trump went on 1210 WPHT in Philadelphia to and lamented the media’s treatment of Hillary Clinton. He then told radio host Chris Stigall, “Without the media, this wouldn’t even be a contest, but the media has built her up. They’ve let her slide on every in-discrepancy, on every lie, on every DNC game trying to get Bernie Sanders out of this thing. If Republicans were doing that, they’d be warming up the gas chamber right now.”
The apparent reference to Nazi Germany was immediately called out for being anti-Semitic. The Anti-Defamation League wasted no time in asking that Donald Jr. retract his comments saying that, “Trivialization of the Holocaust and gas chambers is NEVER okay.”
Over the past several weeks Donald Trump Jr. has found himself facing criticism for posting anti-Semitic memes to Instagram and retweeting a well-known neo-Nazi academic. So far he has not publicly apologized for any of those incidents.
The Trump campaign refused to apologize for the flap, saying that Trump Jr. wasn’t referring to the Holocaust at all.
“The liberal, dishonest media is so quick to attack one of the Trumps that they never let the truth get in the way of a good smear,” Trump’s communications chief Jason Miller told CNN. “Don Jr. was clearly referring to capital punishment to make the case that the media continues to take words out of context in order to serve as the propaganda arm of the Hillary Clinton campaign — something that’s only gotten worse as Trump’s poll numbers have improved.”
