Donald Trump Just Dissolved His Pointless 'Election Integrity' Commission

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order that dissolves his controversial (and totally needless) commission for investigating voter fraud, according to a statement issued by the White House on Wednesday evening.

The Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, as it was known, was supposedly going to sniff out fraudulent votes cast in the 2016 election. Unfortunately for the commission and its boosters, virtually no states agreed to hand over the information the commission requested.

That information included the “full first and last names of all registrants, middle names or initials if available, addresses, dates of birth, political party (if recorded in your state), last four digits of Social Security number if available, [and] voter history from 2006 onward.”

As Kentucky’s Secretary of State, Alison Grimes, said at the time, the state would “not aid a commission that is at best a waste of taxpayer money.”

Said Democratic congressional rep. Gerald Connolly of Virginia, the commission got “the ugly death it deserved.”

Despite substantial evidence of voter fraud, many states have refused to provide the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity with basic information relevant to its inquiry. Rather than engage in endless legal battles at taxpayer expense, today I signed an executive order to dissolve the Commission, and have asked the Department of Homeland Security to review these issues and determine next courses of action.

We eagerly await what the Department of Homeland Security has to say on the issue.
