Donald Trump just suggested Barack Obama is a terrorist sympathizer because of course he did

Donald Trump, one day after the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, appeared to suggest that the president of the United States has terrorist sympathies, and called on him to resign.

Trump said Monday on “Fox & Friends”:

[Obama] doesn’t get it, or he gets it better than anybody understands. It’s one or the other. And either one is unacceptable.

That doesn’t require much reading between the lines: Barack Obama either doesn’t understand terrorism, or he does understand it, so well that he needs to be removed from office.

In the same interview, Trump also suggested the president may have hidden motives:

Look, guys, we’re led by a man that either is not tough, not smart or he’s got something else in mind, and the something else in mind, you know, people can’t believe it.”

The political press immediately picked up on the less-than-subtle message.

This sort of comment, while outrageous, is vintage Trump.

Back in Trump’s birther days, he suggested that Barack Obama’s birth certificate might reveal that he is a Muslim.

“He may have [a birth certificate], but there’s something on that, maybe religion, maybe it says he is a Muslim,” Trump told Fox News host Bill O’Reilly in 2011. In that same interview Trump conflated being Muslim with having terrorist sympathies.

Asked whether he thought the world had a “Muslim problem,” Trump responded “Absolutely, I don’t notice Swedish people knocking down the World Trade Center.”
