Donald Trump promised to stop tweeting, but there's a horrible catch
Imagine, if you will, a world where Donald Trump doesn’t use Twitter to insult his rivals, amplify the messages of white supremacists, or weigh in on Diet Coke. Imagine a world where Donald Trump doesn’t use Twitter at all.
As it turns out, such a world is possible…but there’s a catch. And it’s a doozy.
During a recent campaign rally in Rhode Island, Trump took a moment to promote his @realdonaldtrump twitter account before promising that, were he elected president, his tweeting days would be over.
“You know, I tweeted today, @realDonaldTrump. I tweet,” he explained to the crowd. (Yes, Donald. We know.) Then, seemingly as an aside, he continued:
“Don’t worry, I’ll give it up after I’m president. We won’t tweet anymore. I don’t know. Not presidential.”
Boos can be heard from the crowd.
The announcement begins at 42:25 in the video below:
In fact, tweeting has become entirely presidential over the past few years. President Obama’s personal account has just under 7.5 million followers. Trump has 7.7 million followers, although a sizable portion of those are suspected to be fake.Nevertheless, for those who wish—like Melania—Donald would just #NeverTweet, we now know what it will take to get him to stop.
The question is: Is it worth it?
