Donald Trump says Jeb Bush should stop speaking Spanish
Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump criticized rival Jeb Bush today for speaking Spanish on the campaign trail.
“I like Jeb,” Trump told Breitbart News. “He’s a nice man. But he should really set the example by speaking English while in the United States.”
Trump was responding to comments Bush made in Miami yesterday attacking Trump in Spanish. “He’s not conservative. He doesn’t have a career that you could say is conservative,” Bush said about the bombastic frontrunner.
Bush, who would be the first president fluent in Spanish if he won, has said that he speaks more Spanish at home than English. His wife, Columba Bush, is a Mexican immigrant. (Marco Rubio, another Republican candidate, also speaks fluent Spanish.)Apparently no one told Trump that there are now more Spanish speakers in the U.S. than in any other country except Mexico.
At least this time Trump didn’t get the name of the language wrong. A week ago, he retweeted a tweet attacking Bush for speaking “Mexican.”
