Donald Trump to FBI Investigators: Let Me Make This Easy for You

President Donald Trump’s already ludicrously self-incriminating response to the controversy surrounding his firing of former FBI Director James Comey took an even more comical turn on Friday, as the New York Times reported that Trump actually bragged about dismissing Comey over Russia…to the Russians.

According to an administration document summarizing the now-infamous Oval Office meeting between the president, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Russian ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak—the same meeting in which the president allegedly revealed top-secret intelligence—Trump reportedly told the visiting officials, “I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job.”

“I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off,” Trump added, reiterating that he was not, as he has claimed in the past, under direct investigation by the bureau.

LOL. Sometimes you want to feel like this thing is complicated, but here comes Trump making it way too easy.

According to the Times, the document “has been circulated as the official account of the meeting,” and White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer did not deny the the scenario when asked by the paper.

Oh, also, at the same time, the Washington Post reported that a “senior White House adviser” who is “close to the president” is a person of “significant” interest in the FBI’s Russia probe. So that’s pretty fun.

News of Trump’s apparent boast to the Russian officials broke just after the president boarded Air Force One, en route to the first stop on his first international tour as president: Saudi Arabia. He is being accompanied by his wife Melania, daughter Ivanka, son-in-law Jared Kushner, and a host of aides, advisors and cabinet members—at least one of whom is definitely under close investigation by the FBI.

They will now spend 14 hours locked in a steel tube, thousands of feet above the ground, with a man not exactly known for gracefully handling bad news.

Have a great trip, everyone!
