Doug Jones Has Some Words For His Opponent Roy Moore: 'Men Who Hurt Little Girls Should Go to Jail'

As the Republican National Committee cozies back up with accused child predator Roy Moore, his Democratic challenger Doug Jones delivered a blistering speech during a campaign event on Tuesday. Throughout the campaign, which ends this week, Jones has repeatedly criticized Moore for his alleged sexual misconduct. His speech on Tuesday, however, struck a more scathing tone.

“I believe women are every bit as capable as men, that they deserve to be elected to public office,” Jones told an crowd in Birmingham, AL. “I damn sure believe that I have done my part to ensure that men who hurt little girls should go to jail and not the United States Senate.” He makes a good point!

Nine women have accused Moore of sexual misconduct—one of his accusers, Leigh Corfman, alleges that Moore pursued her when she was 14 and he was a 32-year-old district attorney. Moore has, of course, denied the allegations and it’s starting to seem like the Republican Party might just believe his denials—or they simply don’t care because Moore’s election would secure the GOP’s Senate majority. The words morally bankrupt come to mind when mulling over Moore’s rejuvenated support.

Jones urged voters to look past party affiliation when making their decision—country over party, if you will. “This is about decency, not a political party, and anyone who thinks otherwise should be ashamed,” Jones said. “It is the people of Alabama, the parents of Alabama, who will hold Roy Moore accountable. This is about Alabama’s honor and doing what is right. Nothing more. And certainly nothing less.”

In his closing remarks, Jones referred to a case he prosecuted against two Ku Klux Klan members who were responsible for killing four young black girls in a 1963 church bombing. Quoting his closing argument in that case, Jones said, “It’s never too late for the truth to be told. It’s never too late for a man to be held accountable for his crimes.”
