Drunk 'Scandal' fan calls 911 claiming to be Olivia Pope
A new episode of Shonda Rhimes’ Scandal aired last night, and 20-year-old University of Iowa student Kelsey Cousins really got into the spirit: She called 911 and told police she was Olivia Pope and that “a car with a bomb in it that was heading to the White House.”
According to police records, Cousins phoned police—as Olivia Pope, the D.C. fixer played by Kerry Washington who also sometimes sleeps with the president—from outside the Sports Column bar in Iowa City around 2:45 a.m. Friday.
She reportedly told cops that she spotted Cyrus Beene outside the bar. (Cyrus Beene, played by Jeff Perry, is the president’s former chief of staff who married a male prostitute out of political convenience. Scandal is a truly wild show.) When police arrived at the scene, the Gazette reports, Cousins was “talking about Scandal and a car with a bomb heading toward the White House.”
“Everything that defendant stated was nonsensical and rambling,” officer Brad Reinhard wrote in his report.
Cousins, the Iowa City Press-Citizen reports, had a blood alcohol level of .206, more than twice the legal limit; she apparently confessed to police to having a fake ID.
Police arrested and charged Cousins with two misdemeanors: making a non-emergency 911 call and public intoxication.
Scandal airs on ABC, a part owner of Fusion.
