Even Fox News Thinks the Ford-Kavanaugh Hearings Are a 'Disaster' for Republicans

Christine Blasey Ford’s powerful, earnest testimony about her alleged sexual assault at the hands of Brett Kavanaugh appears to be convincing even hosts on the flagship news network of the conservative movement.

Discussing the testimony, Chris Wallace called it “extremely emotional, extremely raw, and extremely credible.”

“You read the opening statement from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and it is one thing,” Bret Baier added. “But then you hear it and in the way she expresses it, and anybody can be critical or not, but it is a totally different thing after you hear it.”

“Nobody could listen to her deliver those words and talk about the assault and the impact it had on her life, and not have your heart go out to her,” Wallace said.

Baier also criticized the format of the hearing. “The questioning from Ms. Mitchell, the prosecutor, a little jilted because it’s five minutes and it’s separated by each senator,” he said.

“You have to believe that the Republican senators right now are asking themselves whether or not this was a good idea,” added Martha McCallum, “whether or not they have robbed themselves of their opportunity to ask pointed questions in a way that perhaps might be more compelling.“

Wallace, however, was the most blunt about how this is going.

“This is a disaster for the Republicans,” he said. “The Democrats are landing haymakers…the Democrats are making their points and building their credibility, and Rachel Mitchell has so far not landed a glove on this witness.”

If you were wondering how Steve Bannon’s old outlet was covering this, though, that’s a little more in line with expectations.

Following Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony today, Brett Kavanaugh will appear before the same committee. Follow our liveblog of the hearing for more information.
