Florida Congresswoman Picks Her Presidential Favorites Over Ping Pong
The metaphorical turned to the literal for Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), who talked politics with Jorge Ramos over a game of table tennis that aired on Thursday.
“We’ve got a nice volley here, Jorge!” she said at the outset. “You are being very kind.”
“So who do you think will be the next president, or presidenta?” Ramos asked, not wasting any time.
“See, you and I need to have to have this volley in Congress, if Congress could do this,” she said, as they maintain a relax back-and-forth.
“It would be great, right?” Ramos replied.
Ros-Lehtinen’s short list of Republican presidential candidates included Gov. Chris Christie (N.J.), former Gov. Jeb Bush (Fla.), Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (Wisc.).
Ramos asked about Sen. Ted Cruz (Texas), and whether it seems like he’s preparing to run.
“He was just in Iowa,” the congresswoman answered. “You don’t go to Iowa for nothing.”
She also spoke about the chances of any Republican winning the Oval Office in 2016.
“We need to pick up Democratic votes and independent votes, and we’ve got to appeal to younger — aww, I wrecked our volley — younger voters,” she said as their volley continued. “And, uh, not lose the women vote, and pick up Hispanics and Asian Americans — Jorge, you are good!”
“Thanks so much for playing political ping pong with us,” Ramos said, before interrupting the slow pace with a sharp volley that capped the game.
