Florida man who happens to be governor gets told off by fellow Starbucks customer
There’s a lot of social pressure not to confront fellow patrons in Starbucks, no matter how great the injustice. But when that patron is the governor of Florida, and the injustice is lack of healthcare, one woman found the bravery she needed.
A video recorded in a Gainesville Starbucks shows a customer savagely berating Gov. Rick Scott, who presumably was waiting for a latte.
Woman: … you cut medicaid, so I couldn’t get Obamacare. You’re an asshole! You don’t care about working people!
[staff member attempts to interrupt]
Woman: I’m not talking to you. You don’t care about working people. You should be ashamed to show your face around here.
Scott: [unintelligible] a million jobs …
Woman: A million jobs? Great! Who here has a great job? Or is looking forward to finishing school, you really think you’ve got a job coming up? You stripped women of public health care. Shame on you Rick Scott! We depend on those services. Rich people like you don’t know what to do when poor people like us need health services. You cut us! Shame on you Rick Scott! You’re an embarrassment to our state!
Man recording video: Sweet.
The Palm Beach Post reported the woman in the video is Cara Jennings, a former Palm Beach County Commissioner and political activist.
Scott is a two-term Republican Florida governor, Trump-endorser, and 38% approval rating-haver. And while he technically did not cut Medicaid, he did block its expansion, preventing Obamacare from fully going into effect in Florida.
Jennings may be a political hero to many Floridians now, but for the sake of your barista’s sanity, please don’t try this the next time someone cuts in front of you at Starbucks.
