Gov. Rick Scott Sues Florida Counties, Accuses 'Unethical Liberals' of Trying to 'Steal' Senate Seat

The Florida Senate race recount descended further into chaos tonight, as Governor Rick Scott announced his campaign is suing Palm Beach and Broward Counties over ballot counting.

“We have just filed a lawsuit,” Scott said at a press event, according to the Tampa Bay Times. “I will not sit idly by while unethical liberals try to steal this election.”

“It has been over 48 hours since the polls closed,” Scott said, admonishing the state for its incompetence, and accusing Democrats of “mysteriously finding more votes.”

“The people of Florida deserve fairness and transparency,” he continued, calling out “rampant fraud” in the election process.

“I am proud to be the next Senator for the great state of Florida,” Scott concluded, leaving the conference without taking questions.

The National Review posted the text of the lawsuit against Broward County. The lawsuit against Palm Beach County is not yet available.

Scott wasn’t the only Florida politician lashing out at liberals over the election results and recount. On Twitter, Senator Marco Rubio also suggested that Democrats were attempting to “steal” the election, the Miami New Times reports.

Rubio began a series of posts on the recount, writing, “Long but IMPORTANT THREAT [sic] ON ELECTIONS IN #FLORIDA.”

He went on to accuse “Democrat lawyers” of “descending on Florida.”

“They have been very clear that they aren’t here to make sure every vote is counted,” Rubio warned. He went on to link two several articles about voter suppression in Florida. The New Times pointed out that almost all of his citations referenced suppression of Democratic votes by Republicans, not the other way around.

Senator Bill Nelson responded to Scott’s lawsuits and accusations with a statement from spokesman Dan McLaughlin, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

“The goal here is to see that all the votes in Florida are counted and counted accurately. Rick Scott’s action appears to be politically motivated and borne out of desperation,” McLaughlin said.

Update, 9:45 pm: President Trump has tweeted about the recount effort, specifically mentioning Broward and Palm Beach Counties, and alleging that Scott won the state. He mentioned a “corruption scandal having to do with Election Fraud [sic].”
