High school student suspended for posting picture of dirty water in school bathroom
Hazel Juco, a senior at John Glenn High School in suburban Detroit, received an out of school suspension after posting a picture of discolored water coming out of a faucet in a school bathroom on social media. “I always hope that someone will see it and want to help us,” Juco told WXYZ, “because our school obviously doesn’t have money.”
Shortly after posting the picture, Juco was called to the principal’s office and received her three-day suspension for “inappropriate use of electronics in the restroom.” According to Juco, the school is not particularly consistent with enforcing this rule. “Every girl takes selfies in the bathroom and makes it their profile pictures,” she told WXYZ. “No one has gotten in trouble.”
The district superintendent told WXYZ that she looked into the situation and determined that high school administrators had “inappropriately” punished Juco, and that the suspension would be expunged from the record. She also said plumbers had been dispatched to the school.
