Hillary Clinton appears headed towards a rout of Bernie Sanders in South Carolina
Hillary Clinton heads into Saturday’s Democratic primary in South Carolina with a commanding lead over Bernie Sanders in the polls.
The RealClearPolitics average of recent polling in the state shows Clinton ahead of Sanders by a whopping 26.6 points. Despite his best efforts, and his inroads with young people, Sanders has not appeared to be able to make much of a dent in Clinton’s strong support from black voters, especially the women who have made up the majority of the black electorate in South Carolina in years past.
A win in South Carolina would mark a dramatic symbolic turnaround for Clinton. South Carolina was the state where, more than anywhere else, her dreams of winning the presidential nomination were dashed in 2008. It was also the state where the black voters she had counted on to beat Barack Obama decisively abandoned her amid a series of racially charged comments from both her and Bill Clinton.
The polls in South Carolina close at 7 PM Eastern time.
