Hillary Clinton's message to the young girls of America was a powerful prediction of the future

As the closer to Tuesday’s speeches at the Democratic National Convention, Hillary Clinton literally (well, digitally) smashed her way though a wall of the country’s previous, male presidents, solidifying her official presidential nomination from the Democratic party.

“I can’t believe we just put the biggest crack in that glass ceiling yet,” Clinton said to thunderous applause from the audience. “Thanks to you and to every who’s fought so hard to make this possible. This is really your victory, this is really your night.”

Clinton’s brief remarks were the last in a long line of heartfelt speeches and moved the gathering of thousands of Democrats to both cheers and tears. Just moments before her speech, Clinton’s husband Bill, the would-be First Gentleman, regaled the crowd with a sprawling story of how he and Hillary met as young politically-minded college students who, after years of political victories and triumphs, would eventually become the President and First Lady together.

In many ways, Bill Clinton’s speech was a deft subversion of the “spouse speech” that so many women have given in support of their husbands at past political conventions, setting a new standard for men that will have to give similar talk support of their spouses in the future.

In a particularly canny prediction, Hillary Clinton ended her thank yous to the Wells Fargo Arena with a message specifically for any young girls who made sure to watch as she accepted the Democratic nomination:

“And, if there are any little girls out there who stayed up late to watch,” Clinton said smiling. “Let me just say: I may become the first woman president, but one of you is next.”
