Indigenous Activists Disrupt Washington State Legislature to Demand Climate Justice

Hundreds of environmental and indigenous activists stormed the Washington state legislature on Monday to call for urgent action on climate change.

Inside the statehouse, protesters disrupted the legislature’s opening ceremonies. Outside, Native activists set up tepees on the Capitol lawn and rallied together for treaty rights.

But the fight is still far from over. Seven indigenous women have vowed to camp out on the Capitol lawn for the entirety of state’s 60-day-long legislative session.
