Israel Has Killed 186,000 Gazans According to a “Conservative Estimate”
Photo by Ahmad Hasaballah/Getty ImagesThe Lancet was founded in England in 1823, and it is one of the oldest and most widely respected peer-reviewed medical journals in the world. This is not their first attempt to measure deaths in a conflict zone from afar, as they conducted two studies of excess deaths in Iraq in 2004 and 2006 where the range of its 95 percent confidence interval was generally correct.
Authors Rasha Khatib, Martin McKee and Salim Yusuf now write:
In recent conflicts, such indirect deaths range from three to 15 times the number of direct deaths. Applying a conservative estimate of four indirect deaths per one direct death to the 37 396 deaths reported, it is not implausible to estimate that up to 186 000 or even more deaths could be attributable to the current conflict in Gaza. Using the 2022 Gaza Strip population estimate of 2 375 259, this would translate to 7 – 9% of the total population in the Gaza Strip.
The Lancet stresses this is a projection of the current death toll and points out the obvious that “Even if the conflict ends immediately, there will continue to be many indirect deaths in the coming months and years from causes such as reproductive, communicable, and non-communicable diseases.”
If that 186,000 figure sounds unbelievable to you, consider today’s newest report from +972 Magazine, titled “‘I’m bored, so I shoot’: The Israeli army’s approval of free-for-all violence in Gaza.”
“There was total freedom of action,” said B., another soldier who served in the regular forces in Gaza for months, including in his battalion’s command center. “If there is [even] a feeling of threat, there is no need to explain — you just shoot.” When soldiers see someone approaching, “it is permissible to shoot at their center of mass [their body], not into the air,” B. continued. “It’s permissible to shoot everyone, a young girl, an old woman.”
The difference between those who can think critically and those whose reptile brains are fossilized by tribalism has never been clearer. It is now very easy to identify the world’s most unserious thinkers, as they are those still bleating the “most moral army in the world” bullshit about the genocidal Israeli Defense Forces in defiance of all objective reality.
As +972 Magazine points out, the Israeli military refuses to disclose its open-fire regulations in defiance of the High Court of Justice, and Israel has a long history of defying international law. They have murdered more journalists in the months since October 7th than were killed during the entirety of World War II’s six-year struggle. If anything, the IDF is the least moral army in the entire world.
To anyone who can read and think at a fifth-grade level, it is clear as day that war crimes are normal IDF policy and have been for some time, and over the weekend Haaretz confirmed what Electronic Intifada has long reported: that Israel even initiated the “Hannibal Directive” and knowingly fired on their own people on October 7th. Per Haaretz:
Documents obtained by Haaretz, as well as testimonies of soldiers, mid-level and senior IDF officers, reveal a host of orders and procedures laid down by the Gaza Division, Southern Command and the IDF General Staff up to the afternoon hours of that day, showing how widespread this procedure was, from the first hours following the attack and at various points along the border.Haaretz does not know whether or how many civilians and soldiers were hit due to these procedures, but the cumulative data indicates that many of the kidnapped people were at risk, exposed to Israeli gunfire, even if they were not the target.
Israeli air force colonel Nof Eerez told a Haaretz podcast in November that “the Hannibal Directive was apparently applied” and October 7th “was a mass Hannibal.” The IDF has no respect for even the lives of their own people, as bloodshed is the only motivating factor in its genocidal decision-making. They are barbarians.
In light of that reporting, let’s return to The Lancet’s “conservative estimate.” We know that Israel has designated “kill zones” where they shoot on site, and per the Israeli soldiers interviewed in Haaretz’s weekend reporting, shooting was a way to cure their boredom. Assuming that the death toll is on the conservative side likely requires some kind of humanity and restraint demonstrated by a military force constitutionally incapable of evolving past Bronze Age-style retribution.
The most extreme estimate at the end of the range of fifteen indirect deaths for every reported one would put Gaza’s death toll at 598,336—equivalent to one quarter of its reported 2022 population.
Imagine if 82.5 million Americans disappeared tomorrow. Or 353 million Chinese. Or 2.3 million Israelis. That is the potential scale of Holocaust that Israel has brought upon the people of Gaza.
And make no mistake that this is a Holocaust-level event. I have relatives buried in Auschwitz and I see their struggle today in Palestine under a similarly genocidal regime. Benjamin Netanyahu and the IDF are Israel’s version of Adolf Hitler and the SS, and if you think that sentence is hyperbolic, consider how our bankrupt American press would react if the shoe was on the other foot, and a group of hyper-religious Islamic radicals were gleefully massacring as much of the Jewish population as they could. Jake Tapper and his band of stenographers would make the Nazis look sympathetic by comparison.
I am at a loss for words fit to print about this atrocity anymore. The IDF must be dismantled and tried in front of the world for the war crimes that they have delighted in carrying out and filming in their quest to brand themselves as mankind’s most hideous monsters of the 21st century.
