Kamala Harris Is Called 'Hysterical' for Having the Audacity to Question Jeff Sessions

Sen. Kamala Harris has gained a great deal of attention recently for her pointed interrogations of a slew of squirmy Trump officials. Her dogged questioning of Attorney General Jeff Sessions was particularly noteworthy, and it unsettled some of her male colleagues enough that they intervened.

So it’s only natural that former Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller referred to her as “hysterical” in an exchange on CNN Tuesday night.

Miller claimed that Sessions “knocked away some of the hysteria from Kamala Harris and some of the Democrats who wanted to make this a big partisan show.”

“I think she asked a lot of questions,” analyst Kirsten Powers responded, pointing out that Harris wasn’t any more dogged than fellow committee member Ron Wyden was.

“I think she was hysterical,” Miller repeated. “I don’t think Senator Wyden was trying to get to the bottom of answers either.”

“But he wasn’t hysterical.” Powers said. “She was.”

Wyden himself called out the discrepancy in the way the two senators were treated, pointing out on Twitter that he wasn’t interrupted during his questioning.

A Washington Post article also noted that “to those who have observed hearings on Capitol Hill, especially high-visibility televised hearings involving partisan subjects, there has been little or nothing unusual about Harris’s behavior.”

But of course, when a smart, capable woman—and a woman of color at that—dares to ask a man for a straight answer, she’s taken to task for not extending enough “courtesy” by her colleagues, or labeled as objectively hysterical by men.
