Legendary Mexican icon uses final curtain call to explicitly slam Donald Trump

Legendary Mexican singer Vicente Fernandez likes to go out with a bang.

His ranchero songs on betrayal, evil women and being a macho lover have been the life soundtrack for cantinas and generations of melancholic Mexicans for nearly half a century. And “Chente,” as he is popularly known, was in typical form during his recent farewell concert in Mexico City’s Azteca Stadium when he stopped the music after a few rounds of tequila to say a few words about Republican frontrunner Donald Trump.

“The day I come across him, I’m going to spit in his face! I’m going to tell him to go f*ck himself,” said Fernandez. “I’m going to tell him everything no one has ever told him in his damn life.”

Fernandez then performed a song about the plight of a Mexican immigrant who keeps trying to cross into the U.S. after being deported hundreds of times.

“I crossed the Rio Grande swimming without caring, la migra kicked me out and I landed in Nogales, I entered through another border and they threw me into Juárez… From there I went to Tamaulipas and sneaked in through Laredo, I dressed as an American and dyed my hair blonde but since I didn’t speak English they got me again.”

Fernandez is the latest Mexican celebrity to come out against Donald Trump, who recently outlined his intention to block remittances as leverage to force the Mexican government to pay for his proposed border wall.

Mexican Hollywood actors Salma Hayek and Eugenio Derbez have also criticized Trump for his xenophobic remarks on undocumented immigrants. Legendary Mexican bands Maná and Los Tigres del Norte have also taken the stage to rally Latinos against Trump.

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox also used some colorful language to let the Republican frontrunner know Mexicans are not paying for his wall no matter what.

But it’s Chente’s blunt ranchero style that had tens of thousands of Mexicans cheering for El Rey and booing The Donald last Saturday night.
