Lindsey Graham Got a Little Too Racist Even for Fox News
One of America’s worst senators, Lindsey Graham, stopped by Fox News’ morning gabfest Fox & Friends for a hard-hitting interview on Tuesday morning, in which he said he’s planning a Donald Trump-style publicity stunt where he takes his own DNA test and apparently reveals the results on the show. Then he couldn’t help but get (even more) racist!
Speaking about his colleague Elizabeth Warren’s decision to release a DNA test yesterday to prove her Native American heritage—a move that seems to have placated exactly zero of her detractors on the right—Graham said he’s been told his grandmother was part Cherokee and he intends to find out and reveal the results “in a couple weeks.”
“I’m gonna take a DNA test, all of you have,” he said, bizarrely. “The results are gonna be revealed here. This is my Trump moment, this is reality TV.”
He also said of Warren: “She’s less than one-tenth of one percent. I think I can beat her.”
Then, as the interview drew to a close, this cringe-worthy exchange happened:
STEVE DOOCY: Lindsey Graham, come back in a couple weeks and we’ll take a look! [at the DNA test results]
BRIAN KILMEADE: We’ll find out who you really are!
GRAHAM: I’ll probably be Iranian, that’s be like, terrible. (laughs)
KILMEADE: …Well, they have great people, just bad leaders.
GRAHAM: I’m not in the Ayatollah branch.
DOOCY: OK.
Cool!! You know you’ve run pretty far aground when a Fox News co-host has to redirect you into less-racist territory.
Graham also used the interview to make multiple dubious claims about what “this election” is really about, namely:This election now is down to simple things: Are you for what they did to Kavanaugh? Are you for having your government run by a mob or are you for the rule of law?
and:
That’s what this election’s about: If you want people running the country that will give into people who want to…yell at you and intimidate you.
Again, really, truly great stuff.
