Macy's says it will stop selling Donald Trump's menswear line
Yes it exists: Donald Trump has a menswear collection.
But as of today, Macy’s, America’s largest clothing retailer, has decided it will stop selling the clothing line in light of Trump’s recent remarks about Mexicans.
“We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico,” the company said in a statement. “We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation.”
The chain says they’ve been stocking the Trump collection since 2004. Here’s a sample:
And here’s their full statement:
Macy’s is a company that stands for diversity and inclusion. We have no tolerance for discrimination in any form. We welcome all customers, and respect for the dignity of all people is a cornerstone of our culture. We are disappointed and distressed by recent remarks about immigrants from Mexico. We do not believe the disparaging characterizations portray an accurate picture of the many Mexicans, Mexican Americans and Latinos who have made so many valuable contributions to the success of our nation. In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has sold at Macy’s since 2004.
The move comes a day after NBC says it would be cutting ties with the real estate mogul, and a week after Univision said it would stop airing his Miss USA pageant.
Trump has already responded with a statement saying he would be terminating his relationship with Macy’s, accusing the company of supporting illegal immigration.
