Marco Rubio is singing an extremely different tune about Donald Trump these days

What a difference a few months make.

Remember when Marco Rubio was pitching himself as the leader of the “Never Trump” brigade, those GOP souls determined to oppose Donald Trump and his dangerous rise to power? When some of his supporters were weeping at the prospect of having to vote for Trump?

Yeah, forget all of that. The new and improved Marco Rubio is squarely behind this Trump fellow,  as he showed in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday.

“I want to be helpful,” he said. “I don’t want to be harmful…If there’s something I can do to help that from happening, and it’s helpful to the cause, I’d most certainly be honored to be considered for that.” That includes speaking at the GOP convention in Cleveland, apparently.

The Florida senator also said that he doesn’t think Trump should alter the attack-heavy style that, among other things, destroyed his own presidential campaign.

“I don’t think he should change if he’s been successful,” he told Tapper. “I may not like that direction, but at this point, he won and this is the direction that he won on.”

For his part, Trump is suddenly very pro-Rubio too, as he showed in a tweet urging Rubio to reconsider his vow to abandon his Florida senate seat:

We’ll leave the last word to Fox News anchor Shepard Smith, who, in 2012, said these immortal words about the way politicians morph on a dime like Rubio and Trump seem to be doing:

“Politics is weird. And creepy. And now I know lacks even the loosest attachment to anything like reality.”
