Marvel's 'Avengers: Infinity War' said to carry a billion-dollar budget

Some of the earliest buzz emanating from this year’s New York Comic Con is all about just how much money Marvel Studios is willing to spend to make its superhero movies.

Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Infinity War films will, in theory, bring the entirety of its heroic cinematic universe together to fight Thanos, one of the Avengers’ most iconic, intergalactic threats. Just what such a narratively large pair of films will even look like is still a mystery, but details about just how much money Marvel Studios is planning on spending are beginning to trickle out.

During a pre-New York Comic Con party with a number of people close to Marvel’s production, Bleeding Cool’s Rich Johnston alleges that when the conversation turned towards the studio’s Infinity War budget, a billion-dollar figure was very seriously put forth.

According to Johnston, $400 million of that budget would be going towards actors’, screenwriters’, producers, and the director’s budget.

Considering what all Infinity War entails (all of the Avengers including the Black Panther, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Strange plus the Guardians of the Galaxy teaming up to fight a war against aliens in space) it stands to reason that Marvel might have to drop that kind of cash just to foot the FX budget.

Also, it’s not as if Marvel’s short on cash. As Monkey Fights Robot points out, between its first two Avengers the studio took in a cool 2.9 billion dollars. What’s a billion dollars to keep the cinematic superhero industrial complex chugging along?
