Melania's Jacket, Welcome to the Resistance
It was just 15 short years ago, back in June of 2018, that we all collectively freaked out at First Lady Melania Trump’s inexplicable “I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” jacket, worn en route to a detention center housing undocumented immigrant children.
Melania’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, dismissed any efforts at the time to read into the outerwear’s not-so-subtle proclamation. “It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message,” she said. “After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope this isn’t what the media is going to choose to focus on.”
President Donald Trump, however, insisted that the jacket was a zinger aimed at his favorite foils, the “fake news media,” while former White House advisor Omarosa Manigault Newman theorized the jacket was Melania’s way of “punishing” her husband for forcing her to go to the border that day.
On Friday, however, the New York Times profiled the first lady’s tenure in the White House, and included this important jacket update:
A person close to Mrs. Trump said the jacket was actually directed at anyone — both outside and inside the White House — who wanted to criticize her decision to visit the children in light of the administration’s aggressive immigration policies.
Take that, White House ghouls! This outerwear’s for you!
Melania’s fashion sensibility….Be Best, and welcome to the resistance.
