Mike Huckabee's campaign released an Iowa-themed Adele parody and it is unreal

We already know Mike Huckabee’s not a fan of Beyonce, but apparently Adele is more his speed.

Earlier today, his campaign posted a music video set to the melody of Adele’s hit song “Hello,” but with the lyrics changed to be about the Iowa Caucus.

It is insane:

The lyrics to the song are as follows:

Hello.
Sioux City.
Woodbury County Supper Club has quite a cute baby.
Try the pork chops.
Baked beans.
Just as good as Pizza Ranch or Le Mars ice cream.
Hello.
Ankeny.
Arctic blasts, sub-zero chills, campaigning is a dream.
I got frostbite.
Gangrene.
Iowans are not for sale, they’re stubborn and picky.
There’s just no difference between Obama and Hillary.
(chorus)
Hello from the Caucus Night.
If Bernie wins I’m gonna die.
This crazy circus, it’s gone coo-coo-ca-choo.
And Huckabee is the guy who is long overdue.
Hello Iowa Caucus Night.
We’ve called and knocked a thousand times.
To say this election it’s all gone insane.
Huckabee’s honest, it’s time to board the train.
Today.
Hello?
Davenport …
Amish chairs, Casey’s jerky, Quad Cities has quite a port.
Cedar Rapids.
Czech Village.
Corn and coffee politics, a selfie stick image.
There’s a difference between Huck and the other 15.
(chorus)

There’s a lot going on in this music video. The lyrics convey the existential dread that must be hanging over the hangers-on in the Republican presidential campaign, combined with the actual dread of the bitter Iowa cold. Huckabee seems paralyzed, unable to do anything except describe everything he sees to the anonymous person on the other side of the phone call.

Which isn’t to say that it’s all brooding introspection. In between accusing Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama of being the same person and threatening suicide if Bernie Sanders wins the election, Huckabee manages to squeeze in a jab at fellow Republican Ted Cruz.

There’s an interesting Easter egg in the video, too. If you listen all the way to the end of the last chorus, you can faintly hear background singers performing very different lyrics.

I’m sorry for everything that I’ve done.
You never seem to be home.

It appears whoever created this masterpiece for the Huckabee campaign used a karaoke track of Adele’s original song and did not edit out all of the background singers. Or, it’s possible Huckabee is trying to send out some kind of secret apology to someone who never seems to be home. Maybe North Korea?
