Most Americans Like Trump's Muslim Ban, Because This Is Still America

The majority of Americans still support President Trump’s ban to strictly limit the number of residents from six majority-Muslim countries from entering the country, new polling released on Wednesday found.

Because this is still the same country that elected Trump president after he ran a campaign animated by xenophobia and racism, a Politico/Morning Consult poll found that 60% of voters support the new immigration restrictions, which recently took effect. Only 28% of the nearly 2,000 registered voters polled said they oppose the ban.

It’s worth noting that the pollsters did not mention Trump or the word “ban” in their phrasing of the question, which asked about “new guidelines which say visa applicants from six predominately Muslim countries must prove a close family relationship with a U.S. resident in order to enter the country.”

But these results shouldn’t be tremendously surprising, given the fact that this is the same electorate that, a mere 239 days ago, voted to elect Trump as their president. (Do not come at me about the popular vote, I swear to God.) It’s going to take much more than five months of abject horror to change Americans’ hearts and minds.
