Of Course Ivanka Trump Used a Private Email Server While Working in Her Father's Administration

According to the Washington Post, President Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump sent hundreds of emails to other government officials regarding government business using a personal email server.

From the Post:

White House ethics officials learned of Trump’s repeated use of personal email when reviewing emails gathered last fall by five Cabinet agencies to respond to a public records lawsuit. That review revealed that throughout much of 2017, she often discussed or relayed official White House business using a private email account with a domain that she shares with her husband, Jared Kushner.
The discovery alarmed some advisers to President Trump, who feared that his daughter’s practices bore similarities to the personal email use of Hillary Clinton, an issue he made a focus of his 2016 campaign. Trump attacked his Democratic challenger as untrustworthy and dubbed her “Crooked Hillary” for using a personal email account as secretary of state.

It sure seems pretty similar!!!

When questioned about the server, Ivanka told aides that she wasn’t familiar with some details of the rules. How could she be? It’s not like personal email servers were a centerpiece of her father’s campaign.

“While transitioning into government, after she was given an official account but until the White House provided her the same guidance they had given others who started before she did, Ms. Trump sometimes used her personal account, almost always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family,” Mirijanian said.

Yes her family, which includes the President of the United States.

But don’t worry, this was nothing like Clinton’s use of a private server, which resulted in an FBI investigation that may have cost her the presidency.

“Ms. Trump did not create a private server in her house or office, no classified information was ever included, the account was never transferred at Trump Organization, and no emails were ever deleted,” Mirijanian said.

Mirijanian says that Ivanka turned over all government-related emails to officials months ago.

During her time as Secretary of State, Clinton used only a private email server located in the basement of her Chappaqua home. It’s true that some of those emails were deleted by a computer specialist during the investigation. But Clinton’s excuse was the same as Ivanka’s: she didn’t know the rules, and she didn’t send anything classified. The latter later turned out to be false.

“There’s the obvious hypocrisy that her father ran on the misuse of personal email as a central tenet of his campaign,” Austin Evers, executive director of the liberal watchdog site American Oversight, told the Post. “There is no reasonable suggestion that she didn’t know better. Clearly everyone joining the Trump administration should have been on high alert about personal email use.”

During the 2016 campaign, Donald Trump called Clinton’s use of a private email server “bigger than Watergate.”

In a normal world, this massive hypocrisy would be a problem for the President. But we don’t live in a normal world. It’s hard to imagine this story sticking around the news more than 24 hours. In all likelihood, the Trumps, yet again, will get away with it.

CORRECTION: The body of this post has been amended to clarify that Ivanka Trump was using a private email server, not a private email account.
