Omarosa Says the Trump Family Tried to Buy Her Silence for $15,000 a Month After She Was Fired

In her upcoming tell-all book about her time in Donald Trump’s White House, Omarosa Manigault-Newman writes that she was offered a $15,000-a-month contract to stay quiet about her time in the Trump administration, but refused the arrangement, the Washington Post reported on Friday. (The Post cited both Manigault-Newman’s book and people familiar with the proposal.)

Chief of Staff John Kelly ousted the former Apprentice star in late 2017. Manigault-Newman writes in her forthcoming book Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House that she got a call from Lara Trump, a campaign adviser who’s married to Eric Trump, who offered her a lucrative monthly contract to keep her mouth shut.

According to the Post:

The proposed nondisclosure agreement allegedly said Manigault Newman could not make any comments about President Trump or his family; Vice President Pence or his family; or any comments that could damage the president. It said she would do “diversity outreach,” among other things, for the campaign, according to her account.

She also writes in the book that the NDA was “as harsh and restrictive as any I’d seen in all my years of television.”

The White House, through Sarah Huckabee Sanders, responded by declaring the book the “sad” work of “a disgruntled former White House employee” that is “riddled with lies and false accusations.

But it’s been reported that Manigault-Newman made extensive, secret recordings of conversations with the president, and the Post notes that the book, which is out next week, vividly recounts scenes in the White House and directly quotes specific staffers. The newspaper said its reporters had heard “several” of the recordings and found they matched quotes that have been released from the book so far.

Manigault-Newman’s book is the first account of the Trump administration written by a former confidant that is not largely fawning, and it’s already causing problems for the West Wing. As was reported earlier today, Manigault-Newman, who was one of the top-ranking black staffers in a deeply racially homogenous administration, writes that she was told by multiple sources that Trump used the n-word while filming The Apprentice. She also directly quotes the president using racial slurs to refer to George Conway, Kellyanne Conway’s husband, who is half-Filipino. (On Twitter, Conway called the allegation “ridiculous.”)

So, when will the rest of us get to hear the recordings? Maybe Omarosa’s saving those for the audiobook version.
