Omarosa: Was It Worth It, Sis?
If you let Omarosa Manigault Newman tell it, it was her choice to submit her resignation to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly. “Omarosa Manigault Newman resigned yesterday to pursue other opportunities,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders wrote in a statement. “Her departure will not be effective until January 20, 2018. We wish her the best in future endeavors and are grateful for her service.”
Of course, Sanders tends to lead her contentious White House press briefings with the mantra “I’m gonna huff and puff and blow the FAKE NEWS media away with my lies.” So why would I believe any of her bullshit now?
Certainly not when more plausible scenarios have been presented before me like those from New York Times reporter Yamiche Alcindor. Although Alcindor notes that a White House source is disputing that claim, other outlets like the Wall Street Journal are, too, reporting that Omarosa was “physically dragged and escorted off the campus.” As are reporters like American Urban Radio Network’s April Ryan, whom if you recall, is a former friend of Omarosa’s and accused The Apprentice alum of trying to “physically intimidate her” following a rift.
I can definitely see Omarosa cursing out John Kelly. And considering his treatment of black women recently, he’s probably thanking White Jesus and White Santa that he has rid himself of her. There have been reports of Kelly not exactly enjoying Omarosa being around. In fact, it was those “mounting tensions” with Kelly that’s allegedly led to her dismissal guised as a resignation—which explains previous stories of her being the most “despised person in the White House.”
I just have one question for Omarosa: Was it worth it, sis?
C’mon: Omarosa wanted a title and she aligned herself with a racist to get it.
In July 2016, Omarosa officially joined the Trump campaign as director of African-American outreach. No one, especially not someone like her who spent time at the White House in the 1990s, actually believed that this astonishingly stupid man with no government experience was primed to run the nation, even if his delusions convinced him otherwise. Yes, she and Trump worked together when she was a cast member on The Apprentice and he served as a producer of her old TV One dating show The Ultimate Merger, but c’mon: Omarosa wanted a title and she aligned herself with a racist to get it.
No matter whatever rapport they may have had, the reality is Omarosa was a black woman working with a white supremacist who cozied up to other white supremacists and has long proven himself to be a disloyal narcissist. How did she expect this to end?
Of course she had to be dragged out of the place. She sacrificed what little reputation she had as a pastor and a woman with a PhD to work with the village idiot and his band of sheetless Klansmen. Unfortunately, while she did earn the title “assistant to the president and director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison” and a salary of $179,700 (the maximum salary for any White House staffer), what does she have to show for it?
She’s been clowned for finally getting a job and then mocked for no one knowing what she does with her job. Any reporting about her job is mostly related to black Republicans hating her (all 14 of them, I guess) and get a meaningless executive order tied to HBCUs signed. Oh wait, we found out she brought her homegirls to the White House for a bridal shower and got shut down by folks curious about the activities of someone who barely seems to work.
Meanwhile, Omarosa has been silent while Sweet Potato Saddam has attacked black women such as ESPN’s Jemele Hill, Rep. Frederica Wilson, and Myeshia Johnson, the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson. She’s been silent through her boss’ thinly-veiled racist attacks on NFL players and their right to protest systemic racism he and his administration help perpetuate.
Just imagine Omarosa trying to roll up at the next Essence festival.
In sum, black people hate the president more than ever, and after being awarded with a job title at The White House for purported “loyalty,” Omarosa had her black ass allegedly dragged out of The White House. Speaking of “The Blacks” as her now ex-boss likes to call us, she is forever tainted. Perhaps some might forgive her, but most of us will not.
Just imagine Omarosa trying to roll up at the next Essence festival. They’re going to have to hold various aunties back from throwing crawfish tails at her head for this betrayal. Same goes for the Soul Train Awards, the BET Awards, or anywhere else her red carpet loving self tries to show up at. Hell, Omarosa will probably have to duck “the saints” at The Stellar Awards, too, who can’t wait to call her everything but a child of God in the name of Jesus. The same goes for conferences, too, given she showed up at this year’s NABJ Conference ready to knuck and buck and fight with veteran news anchor Ed Gordon over questions of her aligning herself with that apricot-hued bigot.
For those who might bring up Kanye West, let me say that one, I haven’t forgotten and shade him accordingly, and two, Omarosa didn’t drop Late Registration. Likewise, I stopped paying Steve Harvey a lot of mind, but even he was smart enough to try and backtrack. No, Omarosa is more like the political equivalent of Mean Mary (Tina Campbell) of Mary Mary: stubborn, smug, and nasty about her support of the president and anyone who questions her over it.
I don’t know what Omarosa is going to do next, but it couldn’t have been all worth it. And as for the saying “you can always come home again,” she should now consider that fake news.
