One of the Biggest International Airlines Is Cutting Flights to the U.S. Thanks to Trump's Muslim Bans

President Donald Trump’s ongoing efforts to ban travel from a series of predominantly Muslim countries have reportedly forced Emirates Airlines to cancel flights to five U.S. cities.

“Over the past three months, we have seen a significant deterioration in the booking profiles on all our U.S. routes, across travel segments,” the airline said in a letter obtained the Wall Street Journal. “Emirates has therefore responded as any profit-oriented enterprise would and we will redeploy capacity to serve demand on other routes on our global network.”

According to the Journal, Emirates, which was recently named Best Airline in the World
by TripAdvisor, will reduce the number of flights to Boston, Los
Angeles, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Seattle, starting in May.

The “significant deterioration” comes after President Trump’s legally dubious Muslim travel bans targeted residents from a number of countries serviced by Emirates, which is owned by the government of Dubai. It also follows a second order from the White House barring passengers originating from several airports in eight predominantly Muslim countries from packing certain types of commonly used electronics—such as laptops and tablets—from their carry-on luggage.

“The recent actions taken by the U.S. government relating to the issuance of entry visas, heightened security vetting and restrictions on electronic devices in aircraft cabins have had a direct impact on consumer interest and demand for air travel into the U.S” the airline reportedly said.

Emirates’ decision comes amidst a broader “Trump Slump” in travel to the United States, which has seen an estimated $185 million in losses for the tourism industry already this year.
